Fire Officials: Man Starts Fire, Barricades Himself in Arrive Silver Spring Apartment

Police arrested a man for allegedly starting a fire in an apartment at the Arrive Silver Spring building and then barricading himself inside.

WJLA reports that officials stated off-duty police officers were in the vicinity and witnessed a person breaking a window on the third floor of the Arrive Silver Spring apartments on Georgia Ave. in downtown Silver Spring at approximately 7:20 a.m. on Monday.

When the officers attempted to approach the apartment, they detected the smell of smoke and then contacted the county’s Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS). According to reports, the man also apparently barricaded himself inside.

MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer stated that multiple crews reacted to the minor two-alarm fire. Firefighters put out the fire, and the 32-year-old man was arrested. No charges have been reported.
