Fall Cleaning of County Garages to Begin September 11

The county’s Department of Transportation will begin its fall garage washdown campaign on Monday, September 11, officials announced.

During this semi-annual interior garage washdown, 21 county-owned parking garages in Silver Spring, Bethesda, and Wheaton are cleaned and degreased. As part of MCDOT’s efforts to keep garages clean, the department performs spring and fall washdowns to prevent grease, oil, and debris from entering local waterways.

According to the schedule, garages in Silver Spring will be cleaned beginning with the Fenton St. Village Garage (Garage 4) on October 12 and concluding with the Wayne Ave. Garage (Garage 60) in early November. The cleaning of the Wheaton Market Place Garage (Garage 13) and the Amherst Garage (Garage 45) in Wheaton will take place from October 8 to October 11.

As part of the cleaning process, certain garage entrances and exits, as well as ramps, may be partially closed. Contractors will do their best to avoid garage traffic and parked vehicles and will post signs notifying customers of the anticipated impacts, MCDOT said.

The full schedule of fall garage cleanings can be viewed on MCDOT’s website.
