A Message to Readers From the Co-Founder

It was seven years ago over happy hour drinks at La Malinche that Mike Mowery and I first discussed the idea that became Source of the Spring.

We spend a couple of months planning what we wanted to be and designing the site, then launched in October of 2016.

We’ve kept going all this time, including after Mike decided a few years ago to move to the L.A. area and concentrate on his work with the music industry. Now it’s time for another transition.

I have decided to retire from the Source and have turned the business over to David Lay. David has been doing a great job as the website and social media manager since the beginning, along with regularly contributing articles and photos to the site.

David will continue to do that, bringing Silver Spring and Takoma Park news of businesses coming (or going, sadly) as well as the information we’ve learned that you want to read. Please continue to give him all the support we’ve enjoyed these last seven years.

And by that, I include financial support. This has been a labor of love for both of us, and neither of us has ever taken pay for the work we do. Still, there are expenses involved in keeping the Source alive — website hosting, software licensing, payment processing, etc. — running into the low four figures each month.

Advertising revenue alone, while certainly welcome and deeply appreciated, is not enough for any media to remain viable, and really never has been. Whether it’s called contributions, donations, memberships, or subscriptions, every form of media out there needs them to survive. And depends on readers/viewers to provide those funds.

So please, if you have valued and appreciated what we have brought to the community, and would like to keep it going, consider contributing to the Source’s continuing success. Recurring monthly contributions are best, as that ensures a steady revenue stream, but all contributions are more than welcome.

It’s been a good run, and thanks for joining me all these years. Take care, everyone.

Mike Diegel
