Family to Hold Vigil for Melanie Diaz, 25-Year-Old Killed in Fire at the Arrive Silver Spring Apartment Complex

A vigil will be held today for 25-year-old Melanie Diaz, who was killed in the three-alarm fire at the Arrive Silver Spring apartment complex Saturday morning along with her two dogs.

“To honor and celebrate the life of the 25-year-old woman, Melanie Diaz, and her two puppies (Samantha and Ella) we invite all residents and neighbors to join us for a vigil outside the bldg tomorrow (2/23/2023) at 5:00 p.m.,” the family announced in an Instagram post. “To mourn and learn about Melanie Diaz and celebrate her life since the management has [not] yet recognize[d] her passing. We hope to provide a safe space for our community to come together and grieve and come out of this tragedy stronger.”

The vigil will be held at 5 p.m. outside Arrive Silver Spring at 8750 Georgia Ave. in downtown Silver Spring.

Over $29,000 has been raised through a GoFundMe campaign established by the family. A fund was launched Tuesday by the Silver Spring nonprofit Montgomery Housing Partnership to assist residents who had been displaced by the fire.
