Police Investigating 16th Street Homicide

Detectives from the county’s Major Crimes Division are investigating a homicide that occurred early Friday morning in downtown Silver Spring.

2nd District officers responded to the parking lot of the Summit Hills Apartment complex in the 8500 block of 16th St. at approximately 3:05 a.m. for a report of a shooting that had just taken place, MCPD said in a press release. When officers arrived, they found the victim, 29-year-old Nathaniel Potts of Silver Spring, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation by detectives indicated that Potts was shot in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

The investigation is ongoing and no suspects have been arrested.
