3rd District Officers Arrest Three in Attempted Carjacking in Silver Spring

County police announced the arrest of three young men in an attempted carjacking in downtown Silver Spring.

The incident began on Monday evening after county police with the 3rd District saw three males looking into vehicles in the Whole Foods parking lot at about 8:50 p.m.

“The group then walked towards the Safeway parking lot in the 900 block of Thayer Ave. The suspects observed the victim come out of Safeway with groceries and walk to his vehicle,” according to press release.

“As the victim was loading the groceries into his 2018 Audi Q7, the three suspects rushed him. All three suspects punched, kicked, and demanded the victim give up his car keys,” the release continued. “The victim refused to hand over his keys and a witness, who observed the assault, began to honk their horn.”

The three then ran toward the Silver Spring Metro station where 3rd District patrol officers and a K9 arrest them after a brief foot chase. Police also recovered a BB gun during the arrest.

An 18-year-old, Kaiyon Denell Porter, of Washington, D.C., was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged with attempted armed carjacking and related charges.

The Department of Juvenile Services took custody of the two juveniles who were transported to a youth facility.
