Cyclist Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run

The county’s Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is investigating a hit-and-run collision involving a cyclist that occurred Sunday night.

Police from the 4th District and Montgomery County Fire Rescue responded to the area of Georgia Ave. and Janet Rd. shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday for the report that a cyclist had been struck by a vehicle, according to a press release.

A preliminary investigation by detectives determined that a dark red or maroon 2003-2007 Honda Accord was traveling south on Georgia Ave. when it struck a 19-year-old male cyclist traveling west across the roadway. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The vehicle did not remain on the scene.

Police are currently searching for the striking vehicle, which has damage to the front right bumper and is missing the right side view mirror.
