Shooting Suspect Disarmed, Detained by Witnesses

Witnesses to an apparent shooting Saturday evening in Silver Spring disarmed an alleged shooter and restrained him until officers arrived, according to Montgomery County Police.

24-year-old Marcus Elijah Conway of Hyattsville has been arrested and charged for the shooting that occurred in the 1700 block of Mt. Pisgah Lane in Silver Spring.

Officers responded just before 6 p.m. Saturday for the report of a shooting that had just occurred, MCPD said in a press release. “Upon arrival, officers observed a man suffering from multiple injuries to his body and bleeding from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Officers also observed the suspect, Marcus Elijah Conway restrained by multiple witnesses at the scene. There was also a small black handgun, that a bystander stated they had taken away from Conway.

“Witnesses reported that Conway was observed laying on top of the victim, struggling over something, until the victim appeared to go limp. Conway then rolled away from the victim and was seen pointing a black, Taurus .38 Special, 5-shot revolver at the victim’s head. There was an audible click as if the gun misfired. At that time, a bystander kicked Conway and began fighting him over the gun. Additional witnesses joined to help get the gun away from Conway and were able to gain control over both Conway and the gun until 3rd District officers arrived on [the] scene.”

MCPD said that upon inspection of the gun, officers observed an additional live round in the chamber.

Conway has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, use of a firearm to commit a felony, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Conway is currently being held without bond.
