Kusshi Sushi to Open October 7 in Downtown Silver Spring

Kusshi Sushi is set to open its new location in Downtown Silver Spring on Friday, October 7, according to the restaurant’s Google listing.

According to an email received by the Source, the restaurant is hosting a soft opening event this weekend through Thursday.

We reported last year that Kusshi Ko would open at 8512 Fenton St. in the Downtown Silver Spring development, replacing Gusto Farm to Street, which closed in 2021. As reported in June by the MoCo Show, the restaurant dropped the “Ko” from its name due to issues with its signage and has changed its name to Kusshi Sushi, similar to the location at the Pike & Rose development in North Bethesda.

The opening has not been without difficulty, as the restaurant recently failed its inspection a second time due to airflow issues. “We took over the Gusto [Farm to Street] space, and there was an airflow issue,” Yao said on Facebook. “According to an air balance test, there wasn’t enough air coming out of certain vents, which held up our final building inspection for almost 2 months now.”

As previously reported, owner Wesley Yao — who also owns Hanaro Sushi in Bethesda, Poke Dojo in Bethesda, and Kusshi Sushi in North Bethesda — said Kusshi’s quick-service restaurant concept in Downtown Silver Spring would serve donburi (rice bowls), ramen, poke, and sushi rolls. The menu at Kusshi Sushi will be similar, yet abbreviated, to that of the Pike & Rose location.

Kusshi Sushi is the latest in a slate of fall openings in downtown Silver Spring, including Black Lion CaféThe Breakfast ClubCitizens&CultureFirepan Korean BBQ, and the Nike Unite store.
