Grief Support Nonprofit Seeks Volunteers to Serve Silver Spring/Takoma Park

CaringMatters, a Gaithersburg-based nonprofit that provides support services for those in Montgomery County facing serious illness, end-of-life, caregiving challenges and grief, is looking for volunteers to help meet a growing demand for its service in the Silver Spring/Takoma Park area.

The organization will be offering training during a three-day program for volunteers for the following:

  • Volunteer Helping Hands: Participants offer in-person short-term, practical, social and emotional support to residents suffering from a serious illness
  • Good Grief Clubs: Volunteers co-facilitate in-person, seven-week school support groups for grieving students, and
  • Adult Bereavement: Facilitate virtual support groups for adults to meet and share stories with others who’ve suffered similar losses.

Other programs for volunteers also are available, with some requiring additional training.

Training will be held in person from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 5, 6 and 7 at CaringMatters, 518 S. Frederick Ave. in Gaithersburg.

More information about volunteer requirements and how to register is available online.
