Parking Costs for County Facilities Change Today, Jan. 3

Parking costs for county-operated garages, parking lots and on-street meters, including in Silver Spring, will change beginning today (Jan. 3) and be fully implemented over the next few months, officials announced last month.

As of Jan. 3, there is no change in the hourly rate of $1.25 for lots in Silver Spring, but the rate is now effective until 10 p.m.

Similar changes will be in effect for seven Silver Spring garages as well; patrons will be charged until 10 p.m., while the hourly rate remains the same.

Four garages in Silver Spring will see the extended hour for payment begin on Jan. 18. Those garages are located at Spring and Cameron, in Fenton Street Village and the Bonifant/Dixon garages.

A Silver Spring convenience access pass, good at the Wayne Avenue and Town Square garages, will be $195 per month as of Feb. 1, while daily permits will be $15 as of that date.

The County Council as part of the annual budget process sets parking rates.

“Revenues go directly to the management, maintenance and improvements of parking programs and services,” according to a press release. “A portion also goes to supplement other County programs such as the Urban Districts, which support streetscape improvements, lighting maintenance and clean-and-safe crews throughout downtown areas.”
