UPDATE: The post office move into the Silver Spring Library has been postponed to July 30 due to construction issues, a USPS spokesperson has confirmed.

The U.S. Post Office in Spring Center on 16th Street will open in its new, temporary location in the Silver Spring Library on Tuesday, July 17, USPS officials have confirmed.

The post office is the last business still operating in the center at 8600 Spring St., which is in the process of being demolished for Purple Line construction.

Construction is underway on the ground floor of the library at 900 Wayne Ave. in the space behind the windows facing the future Purple Line station.

The post office is expected to operate in the temporary location until March 1, 2019 when Arts on the Block is scheduled to take over the space for its office, studios and a retail store.

Parking is available in the Wayne Avenue garage across from the library. Parking rates are $1 per hour Monday-Friday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. The first 30 minutes are free, as are evenings, weekends and county holidays.

There is no word yet on a permanent location for the new post office.
