Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested; Handgun Found in Jacket

Officers from the Montgomery County Police Department’s 3rd District have arrested and charged Mario J Rios, age 21, of Schrider Street in Silver Spring, with criminal offenses including possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun by a prohibited person due to prior criminal convictions, and second-degree assault for assaulting a 3rd District officer, according to an MCPD press release.

Red Line Service Interrupted by Derailment at Silver Spring

Service on Metro’s Red Line was interrupted by a derailment at the Silver Spring station shortly before 11:30 a.m. A statement posted by the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission, posted on the organization’s Twitter page, reads, “Preliminary information suggests the eight-car train passed a red signal prior to the derailment.”

Proposed Montgomery County Metrobus Cuts Draw Major Pushback

A crowd of Montgomery County residents voiced their opposition to proposed Metrobus route cuts Monday night, as the County Council’s Transportation Committee hosted a town hall in downtown Silver Spring to hear public comments on the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s planned operating budget for fiscal 2021.

County, District Officials Kick Off 16th Street Upgrade Project

Officials from the District of Columbia were joined by Councilmembers Tom Hucker (D-District 5) and Evan Glass (D-At Large) on Saturday to kick off the 16th Street, NW Circle Traffic Signalization Upgrade Project. The project will be led by the District Department of Transportation and is designed to improve safety for all pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers.
