Evan Glass Announces Run for Montgomery County Executive in 2025

Montgomery County Councilmember and former CNN journalist Evan Glass (D-At Large) has officially announced his candidacy for County Executive.

Glass was first elected to the Montgomery County Council in 2018, elected Council Vice President in 2021 and Council President in 2022, and appointed to the EPA’s Local Government Advisory Committee last year.

According to The MoCo Show, Glass shared his plans in a Facebook post on Wednesday, emphasizing the importance of strong leadership in light of current economic and political challenges.

As the first openly LGBTQ+ County Council member, he raised concerns about national policies affecting local workers while prioritizing economic stability, affordability, inclusivity, and diversity.

Glass invited supporters to his campaign kickoff event scheduled for March 22 at 7 Locks Brewing in Rockville.

Dear friend,

Montgomery County is at a crossroads. Donald Trump is determined to dismantle the federal government and our quality of life. He and his aspiring oligarchs are eliminating the civil service, suppressing diversity and inflaming the climate crisis.

Now is the time to stand up and fight for the future we want in Montgomery County – one where everyone feels safe, supported and has the opportunity to succeed.

These are the values that have guided me in public service, and it’s why I’m excited to announce that I’m running to be your next County Executive.

Right now, too many families across Montgomery County – especially our federal workers and contractors – are facing uncertainty about their jobs, their paychecks, and their future. In moments like this, steady leadership matters. We need a County Executive who will not only stand up for our workers, but ensure that Montgomery County remains a place where people can afford to live, raise their families, and retire with security.

I was raised by a single mother who worked two jobs. She gave me every opportunity she possibly could. Her example shaped my commitment to building a community where opportunity is accessible for everyone.

That’s why I’ve worked to:

🔹Make housing more affordable by passing laws to reduce the cost to build housing, strengthening rental assistance, and increasing housing near transit so people can live near their jobs.

🔹 Expand economic opportunity by passing the Make Office Vacancy Extinct Act and increasing grant programs for life sciences and biotech entrepreneurs.

🔹 Require transparency in MCPS by demanding critical oversight and holding leadership accountable.

🔹 Improve street safety by passing the Safe Streets Act and ensuring all kids are able to ride public transit for free so they can get to school, jobs, and activities without barriers.

🔹 Ensure fair wages by championing the Pay Equity Act so everyone gets equal pay for equal work.

🔹 Tackle the climate crisis by requiring buildings be more energy efficient, expanding food composting programs, securing millions for clean energy projects, and making Montgomery County a national leader in sustainability.

🔹 Protect local democracy by expanding the size of the council from 9 to 11, bolstering public financing to curb the influence of big money in politics, and increasing budget transparency.

When I was first elected in 2018, I became the first openly LGBTQ+ person to serve on the County Council. From organizing the county’s first Pride events, creating the Anti-Hate Task Force, and expanding the size of the council (resulting in the most historically diverse and majority-woman council), I have fought to ensure Montgomery County is a place where diversity is our strength – and where we build bridges, not walls.

Now, It’s Time to Do More.

With your support, we can continue building a county that is affordable, sustainable and inclusive. As your next County Executive, I will fight for a thriving economy, strong schools, reliable transit, and safe, welcoming communities.

I hope you’ll join me at my campaign launch event on March 22 @ 11:30am at 7 Locks Brewing in Rockville. I’d love to see you there!

Thank you for believing in a stronger, more inclusive Montgomery County.

I look forward to seeing you on March 22 and working together to build a future where everyone can succeed.

I need you with us and I can’t wait to get to work!

Evan
