Motorkat owner-partners Chris Brown and Chef Danny Wells are hosting a week of festivities to celebrate the restaurant’s second anniversary in Takoma Park.
The Mid-Atlantic seafood restaurant opened in the former home of Republic in May 2023 and is noted by Eater D.C. as “a hip local spot for happy hour, fresh local oysters, and excellent cocktails.”
According to marketing director Frank Manganello, from Tuesday, May 20, through Sunday, May 25, guests can enjoy half-priced local oysters and happy hour drink specials from open to close at the restaurant.
In addition to the discounted offerings of $5 draft beers, $7 wines, $8 martinis and $1.75 local oysters ($21/dozen), the restaurant will debut a special Maryland Crab Week menu, featuring Blue Crab and Gulf Shrimp Empanadas with Aji Amarillo and Basil-Lime Crema and Soft-Shell Crab with Spring Vegetable Succotash and Sweet Corn Chow-Chow.
Also featured is Crab Soup À La Ross, a decades-old recipe for the fiery tomato-based soup passed down from Ross Wells, the father of Chef Danny Wells and a Takoma Park native.
“The Maryland Crab Week menu will be available during dinner hours all week, in addition to Motorkat’s regular dinner offerings,” Manganello said.
Motorkat is located at 6939 Laurel Ave. in Takoma Park and online at motorkat.com.
