Friends Community School is a K-8 Quaker progressive school that engages and inspires young children through adolescence. Located on 17 acres in nearby College Park, FCS offers a diverse, welcoming, and inclusive community, a commitment to educating the whole child, and a curriculum that emphasizes child-centered and hands-on learning.
On any given day at FCS, you’ll witness the many ways learning and growing happen inside and outside the classroom. Kindergarten students might explore story elements through puppet show performances, dive into math while baking pumpkin muffins and managing an imaginary veterinary clinic, or discuss wants and needs while designing their own outdoor classroom. Others in the Lower School spend time exploring civics and activism, research prominent historical figures and peacemakers, or learn about the guinea fowl that roam the grounds. Middle Schoolers, meanwhile, might do a deep-dive into place and geography, hone their annotation, writing, and presentation skills, discuss the importance of digital citizenship, or calculate speed and acceleration in one of our science labs.
