New Restaurant/Bar to Feature Afro-Caribbean Cuisine

A native of Liberia plans to open a restaurant/bar featuring Afro-Caribbean cuisine at 8402 Georgia Ave., the former location of Lina’s Diner and Bar, which closed in November.

Grace Nwaeze, doing business under the name of C&G Group LLC, will open The Republic Garden and has applied for a Class B Beer, Wine and Liquor license for sales on the premises, according to an application on file with the Board of License Commissioners.

Nwaeze, who lives in the Norwood section of the county, is listed as the sole owner of C&G Group, LLC.

According to the application, the planned hours of operation will be Sunday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Friday-Saturday from 9 a.m.-3 a.m.

The BLC has scheduled a hearing on Nwaeze’s application at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 in the Executive Office Building’s conference room at 101 Monroe St. in Rockville.

Phone messages and an email to Nwaeze requesting an interview have not gotten a response.
