Sweet Sweet Kitchen to Move Into Former Odalis Spot Amid Maryland Purple Line Construction

Sweet Sweet Kitchen co-owner Chef Mosada will relocate his restaurant to a new space amid Maryland Purple Line construction in downtown Silver Spring.

The eatery specializes in Jamaican and Sierra Leonean cuisine, having started as a food truck and opened its first brick-and-mortar location at 904 Bonifant Street in 2021. Mosada later expanded the restaurant to the District, opening new locations in the H Street NE Corridor in 2022 and on Minnesota Ave. SE in 2024.

The restaurant’s current location on Bonifant Street, previously occupied by Khyber Kitchen, was listed for sale on LoopNet in 2022 but is no longer available on the commercial real estate market.

Mosada told WUSA9 this week that when construction for the Silver Spring Library station first began, he was looking forward to seeing more customers. However, as construction dragged on, he could only watch as fewer customers walked through the door.

“Every time we lose customers, it makes us harder to pay our mortgages,” Mosada said. “Sometimes we’ll be late, and it’ll be one month, two months, three months.”

The Source has learned that Sweet Sweet Kitchen will be relocating to the space previously occupied by Odalis Restaurant at 8215 Georgia Avenue.

Co-owner Avalanche Deen submitted permit applications to the Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services last year, with demolition and construction beginning shortly thereafter.

Odalis Restaurant relocated to the District in 2022 but has since permanently closed.

While the restaurant’s opening timeline is currently unknown, Mosada told WUSA9 on Wednesday that he will open at the new location ahead of the Maryland Purple Line’s projected winter 2027 opening.

“If this continues over the next three years, a lot of people are going to be out of business,” he said. “I know that for sure.”
