Kosher Dining Grows in Downtown Silver Spring: Cafe K Set to Open in June

Downtown Silver Spring newcomer Cafe K plans to open next month and expand its menu to include dinner options after the initial launch.

The kosher restaurant will open in early June at the former location of David’s Cafe, which permanently closed in 2021.

According to Washington Jewish Week, Cafe K is a family business. Owner Dan Kugler is working to open the café for his son-in-law, Shai Kornblau, who has always dreamed of owning his own café.

Kugler, a window treatment and design industry veteran, told WJW last week that he aims to serve food using only the “highest-quality kosher ingredients,” which are certified kosher by the Vaad Harabanim of Greater Washington.

He is working with “one of the top chefs in Israel” to develop the restaurant’s menu.

Cafe K customers can expect a kosher dairy menu that features fresh bagels, omelets, paninis, salads, fish, soft-serve ice cream, and locally roasted Nagadi Coffee. According to WJW, the menu will expand to include dinner options approximately four to six weeks after opening, as the restaurant is working through the process of obtaining a wine license.

Cafe K is located at 1300 Spring St. in downtown Silver Spring and online at cafekbistro.com.
