Amazon Fresh is preparing to open its long-rumored White Oak Town Center store on Thursday, March 27.
The MoCo Show was the first to report the opening date, which a Facebook Event listing has since confirmed.
Speculation about the Seattle-based grocery chain’s arrival began in 2022 when the location’s developer adjusted plans with the county’s Planning Department to expand a grocery store within a mixed-use development.
The revised plans increased the store’s size from 16,000 square feet—similar to a typical Trader Joe’s—to approximately 40,000 square feet. The updated design featured white and green lettering, reflecting the architectural style commonly associated with the Amazon Fresh brand.
Although Amazon slowed its store expansion in 2023, it resumed opening new locations last year.
After the nationwide slowdown, the company began testing a new Amazon Fresh format at select Chicago and Southern California stores. The updated locations offer a wider variety of products, including grab-and-go meals, and incorporate enhanced technology to speed up the checkout process.
The new Amazon Fresh store will join recently opened White Oak Town Center neighbors Dave’s Hot Chicken and First Watch and will be the grocery chain’s fourth Montgomery County location.
