Officers Arrest Male for Illegal Possession of Firearm, Controlled Dangerous Substances

Montgomery County Police say they have charged a 26-year-old male from Virginia with illegal firearm possession and controlled dangerous substances charges.

“Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police -3rd District Crime Suppression Task Force (CTSF) arrested 26-year-old Tensai Berha Newold Gebremariam, of Virginia for possessing illegally a 9 mm handgun loaded with seven hollow-point, “RIP (Radically Invasive Projectile) rounds, marijuana and an undisclosed amount of cash,” reads an MCPD news release.

“On December 18, at approximately 8:53 p.m., officers observed a black Cadillac bearing a Virginia temporary registration traveling northbound on Georgia Avenue and Sligo Avenue. Upon running the red light at Georgia Avenue and Wayne Avenue, officers initiated a traffic stop.

“Officers observed in plain view, marijuana, a marijuana grinder and an empty handgun holster. The driver was then removed from the vehicle. The driver advised officers that a handgun was located inside the vehicle. A loaded 9mm handgun with a magazine containing seven hollow-point “RIP Rounds” was located in a backpack behind the passenger seat.

“A separate backpack containing approximately a half pound of marijuana, a digital scale, an undisclosed amount of cash and other items indicative of CDS distribution were also located in the vehicle.

“Gebremariam was placed under arrest and transported to the Central Processing Unit, where he was charged accordingly for illegal possession of a firearm and possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance. Gebremariam is currently being held without bond.”
