GoFundMe Campaign Begun for Owner of Stolen Food Truck

A GoFundMe campaign began yesterday for the owner of a food truck stolen over Memorial Day weekend from its parking spot on Brookville Road in Silver Spring.

James Turner, a restaurant veteran with more than 30 years of experience, had recently received a license from the county to begin operating as Beltway Bistro when the vehicle was taken.

The truck, which was reported missing on Memorial Day, was found in Charles County on June 3, badly damaged and completely stripped of equipment. According to reports, Turner had spent more than $50,000 on the truck.

“[Turner] is hoping that insurance will cover the truck, but that could be a while and he will need a down payment for another truck, and unfortunately prices have gone up a lot over the past few months,” wrote fund organizer Cindy Young Turner. “There are also expenses for renting the kitchen space where he intended to be working (required for a food truck here) and other equipment that will need to be replaced.”

So far, the campaign, which has a goal of $25,000, has raised almost $8,500 from more than 90 donors.
