Port-au-Prince Haitian Cuisine, Cielo Rojo Among Eater’s “20 Highly Recommended Patios for Outdoor Dining Around D.C.”

Eater D.C. has featured Port-au-Prince Haitian Cuisine in Silver Spring and Cielo Rojo in Takoma Park in its list of 20 Highly Recommended Patios for Outdoor Dining Around D.C.

Port-au-Prince Haitian Cuisine was praised for its pwason roz and beregèn with bef, as well as its outdoor seating and murals:

Dishes like pwason roz (red snapper) and beregèn with bef (beef and eggplant casserole) are on the menu at this Haitian restaurant in Silver Spring, which offers outdoor seating on a patio covered with brightly painted murals.

The Washington Post’s Tom Sietsema praised the Georgia Avenue restaurant in the Post’s Spring 2019 Dining Guide. “My recipe for a good time starts with a stew of salt cod, onions and peppers served in crisp plantain “cups” and segues to rum-marinated fried goat that takes up to two days to make. Bean-stained rice and fiery pickled cabbage turn the entree into a rousing island feast.”

In addition to their outdoor patio, Cielo Rojo was given high marks for its corn tortillas and vegan flan:

The owners of Takoma Park’s Cielo Rojo built a patio parklet hemmed in by flower boxes, a serene setting for the taqueria’s heirloom corn tortillas and vegan flan.

Cielo Rojo, which opened in 2019, has also been praised by Washingtonian Magazine and Washington City Paper for its pozole and hominy stew. “Cielo Rojo serves the satisfying bowl with a shovel-like spoon, Washington City Paper’s Laura Hayes wrote in 2019. “It looks like something a toddler could use to build a sandcastle. The large utensil feels silly until you realize that it helps you build perfect bite after perfect bite, containing all of the ingredients and their various textures.”
