UP to Host Virtual Benefit for Warriors at Ease

South Silver Spring yoga and wellness studio UP will host its 4th Annual 108 Sun Salutations event this weekend benefiting local nonprofit Warriors at Ease, streaming the event from their Georgia Avenue location:

“In order to honor the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform during this Veterans Day holiday, participants will be led through 108 consecutive Sun Salutations by Dave Cohen, Monya Cohen, and Erin McNamara,” said UP co-owner Dave Giacomin in an email sent to the Source. The number 108 has long been significant in Yoga and corresponds to 108 sacred sites throughout India and 108 sacred places of the body. Please keep in mind that 108 Sun Salutations takes about 2+ hours and can be quite a challenge emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

“This project is very close to the heart and soul of UP’s healing, wellness, and adventure core. We are honored every year to support Dave (Cohen) on his mission and this year seems extra special due to COVID.”

According to the Silver Spring nonprofit’s website, Warriors at Ease “brings the power of yoga and meditation to military communities around the world through training, advocacy, programs, and partnerships. Our vision is to integrate yoga and meditation into military and civilian settings to support the health, resiliency, post-traumatic growth, and connection of service members, veterans, and their families.”

The event will start at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning. Interested participants can reserve their spot at UP’s Event Schedule website.
