Middle school remodeling project underway

Photo by Mike Diegel/Source of the Spring Construction has begun on a remodeling project for the Silver Spring International Middle School at 313 Wayne Ave. The project is a space conversion to accommodate an increased enrollment from the current 1,045 students, according to the school system’s Department of Public Information and Web Services. The projected enrollment for 2017-18 is 1,066 students and the school’s capacity is 1,085. Enrollment is expected to be 1,185 in the 2020-21 school year, according to the MCPS Downcounty Consortium Capital Improvements Plan. Demolition begun on house to allow park expansion

Photo by Mike Diegel. Demolition work has begun on a Montgomery Parks-owned house at 8915 Colesville Rd. that will allow for the expansion of Ellsworth Urban Park. The addition will expand the park’s acreage by about 30 percent, Dominic Quattrocchi, planner coordinator for the department, said in May. Interim features in the expanded park area will include a pavilion, seating, landscaping, a passive recreation area and decorative fencing, all to the north of the Ellsworth Dog Park.
