Urban Wood Sale: Montgomery Parks’ Much-Anticipated Event Returns in November

Montgomery Parks will host its annual Urban Wood Sale in November, showcasing wood sourced from dead or dying trees removed by arborists to maintain a healthy tree canopy.

This year’s sale features a limited wood supply from the historic Linden Oak Tree, which was removed last year due to declining health.

Montgomery Parks has limited Linden Oak wood to one piece per customer.

“The Urban Wood Sale has grown into an extremely popular program for Montgomery Parks,” forester Patrick Harwood said in a press release. “Customers line up early and the shopping is first come, first served. This year, we will have food trucks here selling refreshments to keep the shoppers’ energy up.”

Available wood species include walnut, cherry, poplar, oak, mulberry, cypress, and ash. The kiln-dried and planed slabs come in various lengths and thicknesses, ranging from three-quarters of an inch to three inches.

Wood prices range from $5 to $400, with proceeds supporting the Montgomery Parks Urban Wood Waste Recycling Program and the Green Waste Recycling Program.

Only credit card payments are accepted, and there are no advance sales. The sale may end early if all the wood is sold.

The Urban Wood Sale will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on November 9 and 10 at the Montgomery Parks Green Farm Maintenance Facility, located at 8301 Turkey Thicket Drive in Gaithersburg. For more details, visit montgomeryparks.org.
