Area Jurisdictions, Agencies Announce Changes for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Several area jurisdictions and agencies have announced closings and schedule changes for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday Monday, Jan.16.

County offices, including MC311, and courts will be closed, while libraries will close Sunday and Monday. All Alcohol Beverage Services stores will be open Monday from 10 a.m.–5p.m.

County-operated COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing Clinics will operate on Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 14-15, then will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16.

State offices and courts will be closed, as will Motor Vehicle Administration offices and Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program stations.

Ride On, Ride On extRa, Ride On Flex and Flash (Orange Line only) operate a holiday schedule. Details are available online.

TRiPS Silver Spring commuter store will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m., while the TRiPS Mobile Commuter Store will be closed.

Schedules for Metrorail and Metrobus are online. MARC train will operate on an R schedule on all three lines.

County-provided trash and recycling collections are postponed on Monday. Collections will slide one day later than usual throughout the week, with last pickup on Saturday, Jan. 21. The Shady Grove Transfer Station and Recycling Center will closed.

Aquatic centers will operate on normal hours on Monday, though community recreation centers and senior centers will be closed.

In Takoma Park, all city offices, including the police department, will be closed Sunday and Monday; the Monday yard waste collection is postponed.

Finally, county parking garages, lots and curbside meters will be free on Monday.
