County Announces Schedule Changes For Independence Day Weekend

Montgomery County has announced the schedule changes for the Independence Day holiday weekend, Sunday-Monday, July 4-5.

County offices, libraries and state offices and courts will be closed.

Retail stores operated by Alcohol Beverage Services will open regular hours on both Sunday (noon–5 p.m.) and Monday (10 a.m.–9 p.m.), except Poolesville, which is closed Sunday and open noon–7 p.m. Monday.

Ride On and Flash Bus Service will operate on regular Sunday schedule July 4 and on a Saturday schedule July 5; information about specific route numbers is available online. The TRiPS Commuter Store in Silver Spring will close July 5.

The Shady Grove Transfer Station will be closed on Sunday, July 4. It will be open regular hours (7 a.m.-5 p.m.) on Monday, July 5. All operations will remain as normal, though the Department of Environmental Protection administrative offices at the transfer station will be closed.

County-provided refuse and recycling pickup will operate as usual Monday, July 5, and stay on a normal schedule the rest of the week.

All recreation centers, senior centers and administrative offices are closed. The county's outdoor pools will be open noon-7 p.m., and indoor aquatic facilities are open 6 a.m.-6 p.m.

Montgomery Parks’  headquarters and permits offices will be closed July 5, and the customer service office closed July 3 and July 5).

Outdoor facilities are largely open and indoor facilities will operate on individual schedules during the weekend; more information is available online, or check with the facility.

The Open Parkways portions of  Sligo Creek Parkway will be open to pedestrians  and  bicyclists  for  exercise and recreation Friday, July 2, at 9 a.m. through Tuesday,  July 6 at 7 a.m.

Finally, neither the county nor Takoma Park will have the usual fireworks shows again this year.
