Takoma Park’s Azah Awasum Places Third in ‘Big Brother’ Finale

Takoma Park resident Azah Awasum, who was a contestant in the latest season of the CBS reality show Big Brother, placed third in the season finale, which aired last Wednesday.

This season, the show’s twenty-third, had two firsts for the show — its first Black champion, Xavier Prather, who won $750,000 in a 9-0 vote, and its first all-Black group of final six contestants (known as HouseGuests).

Ms. Awasum spoke to Washingtonian about her experience on the show.

“The shock is over, the disappointment is over, and now, I definitely have feelings of gratitude,” Ms. Awasum said to Washingtonian. “I am a fan of the show, so to be part of this season is pretty darn dope. And to make it to top three on such an epic season is even doper, to say the least.”

Because the show has the contestants living together with no contact with the outside world, Ms. Awasum was away from her Takoma Park home for months. “Oh, man, I love biking on the Sligo Creek Parkway,” Ms. Awasum said to Washingtonian when asked about what she misses most about Takoma Park. “The Sligo Creek Trail is my favorite trail to go up and down on, and I have not ridden a bike all summer. I’m really looking forward to getting back on my bike and getting back on that trail. It gives me such peace, going up and down.”
