Hyattsville Teen Arrested for Police Officer Assault

Takoma Park Police say that they have arrested a Hyattsville teen for first-degree assault, attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and theft under $100.

On August 21st, at approximately 5:56 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the 1300 block of University Blvd. (Walgreens) for the report of a theft,” police spokesperson Cathy Plevy said in a news release. “Upon arrival, the officer pulled up and parked in front of Walgreens when the described suspect walked past him. The officer attempted to stop and identify the suspect, but he fled on foot. The officer was able to catch up to the suspect, at which time the suspect became combative and attempted to disarm the officer. The officer was able to bring the suspect under control after a brief struggle and handcuff him. A search incident to arrest yielded stolen items in the suspect’s backpack from Walgreens. As a result of the struggle, the officer sustained minor injuries. There were no injuries to the suspect.”

Plevy said that the 16-year-old male was arrested and charged as an adult and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
