Takoma Park Teen Charged with Threats of Mass Violence

Takoma Park Police Chief Antonio DeVaul announced Tuesday that a 13-year-old Takoma Park girl has been charged with Threats of Mass Violence and Telephone Misuse.

Police said the teenager made threats of a mass shooting at Takoma Park Middle School.

“On July 6, 2022, at approximately 10:04 am, Takoma Park Police responded to Takoma Park Middle School (7611 Piney Branch Road) for a report of threats made via telephone voicemail regarding mass violence – a school shooting,” police spokesperson Cathy Plevy said in a news release. “Summer school was in session, so out of an abundance of caution, the school was placed on lockdown while being searched by officers for the safety of the students and staff. After clearing the school, the lockdown was lifted and summer school resumed.

“Through investigation, detectives were able to locate the person responsible for the threat of mass violence. Investigators screened the case with the State’s Attorney’s Office and based on the serious nature of the threat, formally charged the juvenile. The juvenile is currently in the custody of her parents.”
