The Richardson School of Music in Takoma Park will celebrate the grand opening of its expanded space at 7320 Carroll Ave. on Sunday, June 3, according to an announcement from the Old Takoma Business Association.

The expansion more than doubles the size of the school’s space and will include soundproof studios for private and group lessons.

Sunday’s activities will run from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., and Mayor Kate Stewart will cut the ribbon on the expansion at 1 p.m.

Other highlights will include free lessons and classes, an instrument petting zoo, student and faculty concerts, food, a raffle and more. A complete list of events is available online.

Director Vincent Richardson opened the school in 2013, offering private lessons and group classes for children, teens and adults in piano, guitar, ukulele, violin, cello, flute, digital music, voice, and songwriting, among others.

The school holds four sessions from September to June and offers two shorter summer sessions.
