The county will extend the Shared Streets program until at least March, officials announced yesterday. The program was started during the pandemic to allow residents and businesses to use public spaces for in-street activities such as biking, walking, outdoor dining and other business activity.
The county’s Department of Transportation yesterday launched a “20 is Plenty” pilot program that will lower speed limits to 20 miles per hour on certain urban roads.
The Maryland Department of Transportation has committed $1.6 million to finish redesigning the Georgia Avenue corridor in Montgomery Hills and Forest Glen, according to a press release distributed by state Del. Humberto Guerra, age 26, of Bronzegate Place in Silver Spring was identified as the driver of a white Nissan Versa that hit an unoccupied, parked vehicle around Carroll Avenue and Osage Street in the Langley Park area.

Takoma Park Police last night responded to calls of a truck that crashed into Capital One Bank at 1181 University Boulevard in the Takoma-Langley Crossroads neighborhood, triggering multiple reports of news helicopters in the area.
Officers from the Montgomery County Police Department’s 3rd District have arrested and charged Mario J Rios, age 21, of Schrider Street in Silver Spring, with criminal offenses including possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun by a prohibited person due to prior criminal convictions, and second-degree assault for assaulting a 3rd District officer, according to an MCPD press release.
Montgomery Parks will close two sections of Sligo Creek Parkway tomorrow, Sept. 18 to vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians from 8 a.m.–2 p.m. The sections are:
Parkway from Colesville Road to Wayne Avenue, and
Parkway from Kennebec Avenue to Maple Avenues.
