Jheanelle Wilkins, a member of the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee, was chosen by that group on the third ballot last night as the nominee to fill the vacant delegate seat in District 20.
With little to differentiate each other in terms of policy, candidates for state delegate focused on their priorities, background and experience to try to stand out before a standing-room-only crowd attending a forum Thursday night at the Silver Spring Civic Building.
District 20 residents will have two chances this week to hear from the six announced candidates for the open delegate position created when Del. Will Smith was chosen to replace state Sen. Jamie Raskin following his election to Congress.

An overflow crowd packed a room at the Silver Spring Civic Center Nov. 17 to hear four candidates explain why they are the best choice to replace Congressman-elect Jamie Raskin as state senator for District 20.
Several hundred students from Montgomery Blair, Northwood and Albert Einstein high schools marched through Silver Spring and Wheaton earlier today to protest the election of Donald Trump as president.
