Shepherd’s Table Receives Urban Garden Grant

South Silver Spring-based nonprofit Shepherd’s Table has been chosen as a Grants 4 Plants urban garden grant recipient, as reported by a post to their Instagram account.

“We are honored to announce that Shepherd’s Table and our urban garden have been chosen as one of the 2020 Grants 4 Plants winners from Mountain Rose Herbs,” reads the Instagram post. “Urban Food Garden is one of the four new programs that we are working to launch next year. The program will quadruple our current capacity to grow vegetables and herbs behind Progress Place. In the future, we plan to teach gardening skills to interested meal guests and clients. The grant from Mountain Rose Herbs would help us purchase more garden beds and materials to use the space at its full capacity. Thank you so much, Mountain Rose Herbs team!”

Headquartered in Eugene, Oregon, Mountain Rose Herbs has given five grants in the amount of $4,000 to those “who demonstrate that they share our mission-driven philosophy, passion for herbalism, and commitment to taking care of people while protecting the planet,” according to the Grants 4 Plants website.

The Urban Food Garden is one of four new programs that Shepherd’s Table is planning to launch in 2021, as stated in a blog post on their website. “Our second new program is called the Urban Food Garden, which will allow us to quadruple our current capacity to grow vegetables and herbs behind Progress Place. In the future, we plan to teach gardening skills to interested meal guests and clients.”

Shepherd’s Table relocated to its current Progress Place location in 2016.
