Three Restaurants, Nonprofit Founder Receive Rammy Honors

Three area restaurants and a nonprofit founder received honors at the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington’s 2021 Rammy Awards, presented Sunday.

All Set Restaurant & Bar manager Otgontuya Davaasuren won a Rammy Award in the Manager of the Year category, and The Girl & The Vine and Donut Run received Honorable Mentions in the Wine To Go Program and Sweet Relief: Baking and Pastry To Go categories, respectively.

Medium Rare owner Mark Bucher, who founded and operates the Feed The Fridge nonprofit with locations in Takoma Park and Silver Spring, received a Good Neighbor Award in the Individual Honors category.

Eater D.C. reported in July that this year’s Rammy Awards would be tweaked due to the COVID-19 pandemic:

This year’s awards, slated for Sunday, September 19, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, won’t include a Chef of the Year, Restaurant of the Year, or a Rising Star. Instead Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington announced a batch of finalists yesterday in categories that honor creative takeout packaging, sandwich pop-ups, patio scenery, improvised markets, virtual cooking classes, and philanthropic efforts in the community, all of which mark a change from 2020’s mostly virtual awards.

Eater D.C. also noted that RAMW also opened the awards to non-members, meaning restaurants did not have to pay dues to be considered.

“For almost forty years, The RAMMY Awards have honored the exceptional ability and accomplishments of the hard-working individuals and organizations of the  Metropolitan Washington region’s restaurant and foodservice community,” RAMW said in a press release. “Recognizing that it would not be fair to assess the industry on performance in 2020, RAMW and RAMMYS stakeholders created timely categories that spoke to all the ways the region’s industry uniquely met those challenges.”
