Police Investigating Antisemitic Fliers

Montgomery County Police say they are investigating a weekend incident involving the distribution of antisemitic fliers in the Forest Estates neighborhood of Silver Spring.

The Washington Post reported Monday that the fliers, which were put in plastic bags and weighed down with rocks or corn kernels, were dropped at homes overnight Saturday.

“The fliers included an image of a syringe and a QR code directing people to a website promoting Holocaust denial and support for Adolf Hitler,” The Washington Post report said.

Newsweek reported yesterday that fliers containing antisemitic conspiracy theories that the Jewish community started the coronavirus pandemic were scattered in Beverly Hills and Pasadena, Calif., as well as Greensboro, North Carolina, over the weekend.

“The flyers began with the statement that “every single aspect of the COVID agenda is Jewish” and proceeded to list a number of antisemitic theories linked to the pandemic,” Newsweek said in the report.

“The Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Patrol is actively investigating a bias incident that occurred on Saturday, December 19, 2021,” reads an MCPD news release.

“At approximately 9:40 a.m., 3rd District officers responded to the 1900 block of [Brisbane] Street for the report of a bias related incident. When officers arrived, they observed literature containing Anti-Semitic language.

“The initial complainant stated that at approximately 12:45 a.m., they observed an unknown male subject in, what appeared to be a Volkswagen Jetta, throw the literature from his car window. Numerous fliers containing the Anti-Semitic language were discovered throughout the Forest Estate[s] neighborhood.

“Anyone with information on this incident or the identity of the suspect, is asked to call the 3rd District Patrol – Community Engagement Division at 240-773-6800.”
