Locavino Honored for Second Time by Wine Spectator Magazine

Silver Spring wine café Locavino has earned an Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator magazine for the second year in a row.

“Winning a restaurant award from Wine Spectator means that you are in the company of the world’s greatest beverage programs,” Zachary Kameron, wine director of new Best of Award of Excellence winner Peak in New York, said in the article announcing this year’s awards. “For me personally, it means validation for all of the overnights, marathon stocking sessions, tirelessly poring over distributor inventories and offerings, and all of the other efforts that go into putting a wine program together.”

This year, 1,673 restaurants around the world earned the award, which is “given to restaurants with thoughtfully chosen selections appropriate for the cuisine and representative of a range of regions and styles. These lists can vary in size but typically offer 90 options or more,” according to the magazine.

Locavino was cited for inexpensive selections that complement its American cuisine from Chef Miguel Argueta, with particular strength in wines from Italy, Spain and Maryland, largely chosen by wine director (and co-owner) Jarrod Jabre.

Earlier this year, Locavino employee William Ferguson, who’s training to be a wine buyer, was featured in Wine Enthusiast magazine as one of several LGBTQ+ individuals active in the wine community.

The café is located at 8519 Fenton St., part of the Downtown Silver Spring complex.
