Former Cubano’s Restaurant Set for Transformation Into Momiji Sushi Izakaya & Japanese Ramen

Demolition and construction are set to begin soon at the future home of Momiji Sushi Izakaya & Japanese Ramen in downtown Silver Spring.

We reported last month that the Japanese eatery is taking over the former location of the longstanding Cubano’s Restaurant at 1201 Fidler Lane, which permanently closed last summer after temporarily shutting down for renovations.

The 4,632-square-foot building was listed for sale last fall for $2.75 million. According to the BizBuySell listing from Jim McGinnis of The Restaurant Broker, the building was constructed in 1942 and has a triple-net lease rate of $14,000 per month.

There is another Momiji Restaurant located in D.C.’s Chinatown neighborhood; however, the two locations are not affiliated. The downtown Silver Spring restaurant is registered in Maryland, with business filings listing an address in Centreville, Virginia.

“I called the D.C. location a few weeks ago when I originally saw the sign posted and confirmed that they are not the same owners,” Silver Spring Regional Services Center director Jacob Newman said in an email to the Source last month.

The restaurant, which currently lacks a website and social media presence, has an unknown opening timeline.
