Local Nonprofits Join Forces to Give Every Kid a Chance to Play Sports

Silver Spring Cares and Leveling the Playing Field are teaming up this month to collect new and gently used equipment for children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in sports.

Leveling the Playing Field collects and redistributes sports equipment to under-resourced communities in Greater D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, Buffalo, and Columbus, donating over $14 million in sports equipment to schools, youth teams, leagues, and other nonprofits since 2013.

Anyone with spare sporting equipment or those who wish to support kids eager to play sports is encouraged to donate gently used items or consider purchasing new equipment to contribute.

“Our mission has always been to strengthen the community through connection,” said Liz Brent of Go Brent Realty and founder of Silver Spring Cares. “We’re incredibly impressed by the work that Leveling the Playing Field does – and we love the fact that they were started right here in Silver Spring. We’re proud to be partnering with them to give every kid a chance to play. Small acts of generosity can have a huge impact.”

Donations can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays through March 31 at Go Brent Realty, located at 914 Silver Spring Ave. in downtown Silver Spring. More information and a list of accepted items are available at gobrentrealty.com.
