UPDATED: Officer-Involved Shooting on Wayne Avenue

UPDATE 12/29/21 2:03 p.m. — Montgomery County Police posted the following update on the department’s Facebook page:

“At approximately 4:15 a.m., Third District officers responded to a shooting call at the 900 block of Bonifant Street.

“An adult male was located with a gunshot wound and transported to an area hospital.

“A lookout for the suspect vehicle was put out and 3D officers located that vehicle. Officers conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Wayne Avenue and Dartmouth Ave. An occupant in the vehicle fired rounds at the officers.

“The officers returned fire, striking the individual. The individual died on scene.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation.

“The Maryland Office of the Attorney General Independent Investigation Division will be conducting the investigation into the officer involved shooting.”

Montgomery County Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting on Wayne Avenue in downtown Silver Spring, according to a tweet from the department.

Montgomery County Police is on scene of an officer involved shooting on Wayne Avenue in Silver Spring,” the tweet reads. “Officers returned fire after being fired upon. One individual is deceased. PIO is on scene.”

Fox 5 reported that the shooting occurred on Wayne Ave. near Greenbrier Drive.
