Silver Spring Native Wins “Ben & Jerry’s Clash of the Cones”

Rabia Kamara, a Silver Spring native who owns Ruby Scoops in Richmond, Va., won the $20,000 grand prize on a Food Network reality show competition Monday night, according to a report from Bethesda Beat.

“Ben & Jerry’s Clash of the Cones” features ice cream makers in competition for a $20,000 prize and a feature in a Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop, or event in the winner’s hometown. Ms. Kamara was one of three finalists that competed in Monday night’s episode.

According to Food Network Gossip, Ms. Kamara’s winning ice cream was “Bia’s Black Joy Sundae,” comprised of Salted Malted Dulce de Leche Ice Cream, Vanilla Ice Cream with Dark Chocolate Fudge Brownie Chunks, Blondie Brownie Chunks, and Seafood Seasoning Caramel.

“Kamara, who studied at L’Académie de Cuisine in Maryland, launched Ruby Scoops out of Union Kitchen after noticing a lack of high-quality desserts in flavors she craved,” Eater D.C. reported last year. “In the years that followed, Ruby Scoops became a fixture at farmers markets and events like the Broccoli City Festival, the National Cannabis Festival, and the D.C. outpost of weekly food festival Smorgasburg. When hit Burmese restaurant Thamee opened on H Street NE, Kamara was in the kitchen making tamarind-saffron ice cream for dessert.”

“I decided to take today and live in the moment of this win no longer being a secret!!”, Ms. Kamara posted about the win yesterday on the shop’s Instagram account. “The scoop’s out the bag— I WON #CLASHOFTHECONES !!!!

“I am overwhelmed in the best way by the outpouring of support you’ve all given me over these four weeks!

“I’m grateful for the years of support my family and friends have given me since I decided ice cream was the life for me—who have always considered their champion in 🍦

“I thank god for my talent and dedication to this craft.

“Special thanks to my team for holding it down while I was away filming, my boo and best friend for helping me keep my head above water on fourteen plus hour days on set, and @jayrock for my theme song over the month, “WIN” 💪🏽

“YALL I WON!!!!! 🥺
