A Pepco contractor is scheduled to start work that will cause the closure of Fenton Street from New York Avenue to Takoma Avenue beginning Thursday, Sept. 6 at 9:30 a.m., according to an email circulated by Dr. Brad Stewart, Montgomery College Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus vice president and provost.

The work, expected to take several months, will completely close Fenton Street from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and traffic will be rerouted.

“During the hours when Fenton Street is closed, all traffic exiting our East Garage will be required to turn left (north) out of the garage toward Philadelphia Avenue,” Stewart wrote. “Right turns toward New York Avenue will not be permitted.”

The work will also affect the Ride On bus routes #17 and #18 that use Fenton Street. The buses will no longer drop off or pick up passengers on Fenton Street next to the college’s Student Services Building. Busses on both routes will drop off and pick up passengers only at the stops at the intersection of Philadelphia and Chicago avenues, next to Pavilion 4.

Any questions or concerns about the project should be directed to Richard Ellison, project manager for contractor CW & Sons at 443-326-6924 (mobile) or by email to [email protected].
