Silver Spring Team Creates Way to Rep the Area While Supporting Charity

A Silver Spring brother-sister team has created a way to represent the area while raising funds for a local non-profit.

Pete Tantisunthorn and his sister Rhena will begin selling a small line of clothing for men, women and kids featuring the tagline “There’s Only One Silver Spring.”

The line is a reference to the all-too-common mistake locals see and hear referring to their home as “Silver Springs,” plural.

“My sister Rhena came up with the idea,” Pete said, “inspired by countless times that individuals see ‘Silver Springs’ online in famous songs like Fleetwood Mac’s, in the news, and whenever that happens, there tends to be a pretty strong reaction to it.

“People who live in this area, whether you were born here or simply lived here any period of time, tend to become really quite enamored by it and protective of it and protective of the name,” he continued. “And when people call it the wrong thing, they get upset. Rightly so.”

Pete is the person behind Silver Spring Inc., formerly a local marketing agency now in transition to becoming a community resource; he’s known for bringing PechaKucha presentations to Silver Spring in pre-pandemic days.

Rhena can be followed at Wild Goose Land, a blog on life in Silver Spring, homeschooling and potpourri, Pete said.

The two will start selling their clothing line today online. It includes regular and long-sleeve t-shirts for men and women, with a V-neck style for women, in several choices of colors. Children’s clothing includes a onesie for the little ones.

Prices range from $18–$25 and 100% of all profits from the project will benefit Shepherd’s Table, Pete said.

The shirts will only be available for one month.
