Silver Spring and Takoma Park each have a new temporary piece of public art created by local artists commissioned by the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County through its Public Arts Trust program, #ArtHappensHere.
The Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center joined NBC/Telemundo’s nationwide “Clear the Shelters” adoption event today, reducing adoption fees for all animals by 50% from today (Aug. 23) through Sept. 19. In addition, the fee will be completely waived for any animal that has been at the shelter for more than 30 days.
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department’s 3rd District are investigating an armed carjacking that occurred on Wayne Avenue in Silver Spring. MCPD has released surveillance video of the suspects and is seeking the public’s help in identifying them.
The Takoma Park Street Festival has returned for 2021, according to an announcement from Main Street Takoma. The festival will be held Sunday, October 3rd, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., along Carroll Avenue in Takoma Park.

Downtown Silver Spring’s All Set Restaurant & Bar will offer a new exclusively vegetarian and vegan menu for lunch and dinner services on Tuesdays, starting later this month. Chef Ed Reavis, a health & fitness enthusiast, was inspired to create the menu following a recent partnership with Shouk, a local plant-based fast-casual chain.
