Maryland Governor Larry Hogan and U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao will participate in a groundbreaking and signing ceremony for the Purple Line Monday, according to reports.

The event will take place at 10 a.m. at the Purple Line Operations Center, 4800 Veterans Parkway.

First reported by Bethesda Beat, the governor’s office this afternoon announced that the ceremony will include the signing of a full funding grant agreement for $900 million in federal funds for construction of the project.

While preparatory work has been underway for some time, full construction is expected to begin with weeks of the signing.

Montgomery County councilmembers, among others, were notified Wednesday night and at least some are expected to attend.

In May, Maryland Transportation Secretary suspended “key elements” of the project due to uncertainty surrounding a case in Federal District Court. Those issues were largely resolved by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
