The county has launched a summer employment program for residents aged 16–23 who will work throughout the county to assist in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and economic recovery.
The “COVID Corps” will be run by the county’s Recreation Department, which will provide mentors, guidance and training for selected applicants.
The hourly rate for the jobs is $14 per hour, and all chosen candidates must successfully pass a criminal background investigation, which will include state, federal and sexual offender background checks, according to a press release.
The jobs in the corps include:
- Food security, including but not limited to supporting the packaging, distribution and delivery meals to vulnerable populations
- Community outreach and translation assistance
- Tech Connect, teaching and mentoring seniors how to use technology and online resources
- Operational recovery assisting county departments prepare for employees’ return to work, and
- Special projects in which crews can respond to urgent eligible project requests from county non-profits and county agencies.
Participants will also have multiple opportunities for job-related training and instruction.
