Submissions for Virtual Music Contest Now Being Accepted

Submissions for the Virtual 2021 Make Music Montgomery contest are now being accepted by the county library system, officials announced.

The contest, which will be part of Virtual Just for the Record—A Vinyl Day, is open to anyone who lives or works in the county.

Submitted acts must contain a live musical element and may include dance or other forms of artistic expression. Officials also are looking for a variety of acts featuring languages and cultures from people of all ages and abilities.

If chosen, acts will have a chance to refine the performance, which will be played during the first hour of Virtual Vinyl Day.

“We are delighted to celebrate the musical gifts of our community; and are looking forward to receiving many submissions,” said Montgomery County Public Library Director Anita Vassallo in a press release. “Music brings people together, and when performed by talented residents it is inspiring for the whole community.

VInyl Day will be held via the library system’s Facebook page on Saturday, April 17 from noon to 3 p.m. A group of judges will have a virtual discussion with each act’s performers and award first and second place prizes, valued at $100 and $50, respectively. The Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, Inc. is sponsoring the awards.

Participants will need to submit a virtual audition file, in any common format no longer than three minutes, by midnight, March 3.
