The Purple Line Transit Partners announced that the Georgetown Branch Interim Trail would be closed for four to five years beginning Tuesday, Sept. 5.

The trail, which is the future Capital Crescent Trail, will be shut down from Woodmont Avenue on Bethesda to Talbot Avenue in Silver Spring to facilitate Purple Line construction.

The official groundbreaking for the project was held Monday and construction along the line was to begin immediately in multiple locations.

Once all the approvals are in place, the company will begin clearing trees along the trail and start construction along the entire length of the trail. Work will be ongoing seven days a week.

The county’s Department of Transportation has developed an alternate trail route for hikers and bikers, shown in red the graphic.

For additional information about the alternate trail, call 240.777.0311.
