Montgomery County will bring back the Thanksgiving parade on Saturday, Nov. 20 this year after canceling in 2020 due to the pandemic.
The county is now accepting applications for parade participants, looking for marching bands, artists, dance and gymnastic troupes, sports teams, clubs, floats and costumed characters, among others, according to a press release.
The parade begins at 10 a.m. at Veterans Plaza and runs for one mile down Ellsworth Drive and Georgia Avenue.
Attendees to this year’s parade will be asked to socially distance themselves and to wear masks for safety’s sake.
The organizers are also looking for volunteers 13 and older to help with the parade. Volunteers can participate as costumed elves or pilgrims on floats, reindeer and penguins walking the parade route, act as unit leaders or help to handle balloons.
Volunteers will be expected to be present from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 20.
Applications for parade participants can be found online and are due on Sept. 27. More information for volunteers is also on the parade website.
